“Adrift” is from Heather A. Slomski’s debut collection THE LOVERS SET DOWN THEIR SPOONS (University of Iowa Press, 2014), which won the Iowa Short Fiction Award.


Slomski earned her MFA in Fiction from Western Michigan University and held the Axton Fellowship in Fiction at the University of Louisville.  Her work has appeared in TriQuarterly, American Letters & Commentary, Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art, and elsewhere.  She is a recipient of a Minnesota State Artist Initiative Grant and a Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grant.  She lives in Moorhead, Minnesota.
