Josip Novakovich’s Top 10

Josip Novakovich has published three story collections, a novel, and non-fiction. He said: OK, here’s the list of ten. It’s hard to do this as there are so many stories. I think ‘favorite 50’ would make more sense. . . So this is subjective, and each story has something that I am wild about.

1.“Notes from the Underground,” Fyodor Dostoevsky 2.“Father Sergius,” LeoTolstoy
3.“Earthquake in Chile,” Heinrich von Kleist4.“Black Monk,” Chekhov
5.“Blue Hotel,” Stephen Crane6.“Ball of Fat,” Guy de Maupassant
7.“Nevsky Prospekt,” Nikolai Gogol 8.“We Didn’t,” Stuart Dybek
9.“My Oedipus Complex,” Frank O’Connor 10.“A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings,” Gabriel Marquez
