Yiyun Li’s Top 10

Yiyun Li’s most recent collection is Gold Boy, Emerald Girl (Random House). MacArthur Foundation named her a 2010 fellow. She grew up in Beijing and lives in the U.S. She said of her choices: I have read each of these stories at least five and sometimes more than ten times, yet with every reading, I feel that I have learned something new–about people, about the world, about storytelling. That seems to be the essence of a good story, to be limited with space, but to be infinite in what it does to a reader.
